Prof. Dr. Atakan Sezer

Prof. Dr. Atakan Sezer completed his medical education at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. Following his graduation, he received his general surgery residency training at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery, between 2000 and 2005. He completed his specialty thesis titled “The Effect of Melatonin in Rats with Experimentally Induced Sclerosing Cholangitis.”

After completing his residency training, Prof. Dr. Sezer continued his academic work at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. He became an assistant professor in 2007, an associate professor in 2012, and a professor in 2017. Between 2000 and 2026, he served as a research assistant, specialist physician, and faculty member at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. As of 2026, he accepts patients at his private clinic in Edirne.

Throughout his professional development, Prof. Dr. Sezer has undertaken training and observational studies at important centers in Türkiye and abroad. He worked at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Breast Diseases, and in 2010, he served in the Department of Breast Diseases at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy. He completed his training in breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic breast surgery, and breast reconstruction techniques at leading centers in Europe.

His main areas of interest include benign and malignant breast diseases, breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic breast surgery, breast reconstruction methods, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and experimental surgery. He provides services in line with current scientific approaches, prioritizing patient safety, treatment effectiveness, and patient comfort.

Academic Studies and Scientific Contributions

Throughout his academic career, Prof. Dr. Atakan Sezer has taken part in numerous scientific research projects, supervised specialty theses, and actively participated in national and international scientific meetings.

He has contributed to many studies in the fields of breast diseases, breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic breast surgery, thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, endocrine surgery, and experimental surgery. He has served as an invited speaker, panelist, session chair, scientific committee member, and instructor at national courses, workshops, and congresses.

He has provided training in national educational programs organized in the fields of professionalism, breast cancer surgery, and oncoplastic surgery. He has also delivered presentations at many scientific meetings on surgical approaches, complication management, multidisciplinary treatment, breast reconstruction, and thyroid surgery.

Publications and Works

Prof. Dr. Atakan Sezer has more than 150 articles and book chapters published in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He has also delivered more than 200 papers, speeches, and presentations at national and international scientific meetings.

His scientific studies are mainly focused on breast diseases, breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic breast surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, endocrine surgery, general surgery, and experimental surgery.
